The Story Behind WideStep

WideStep was born from frustration, heartbreak, and a refusal to accept the status quo.

Our founder watched her mother's life shrink before her eyes. A career ended early at 58 years before she was ready. The dream retirement trip to Italy? Cancelled, she couldn't handle the walking anymore. Playing with her grandchildren? She watched from the bench. The doctors pushed a $10,000 bunion surgery with a six-month recovery. And in her mother's eyes, she saw something that broke her heart: defeat. "This is just my life now."

But it didn't have to be.

After spending over $2,700 on custom orthotics that made things worse and facing pressure to go under the knife, our founder became obsessed with finding the real solution. What she discovered shocked her: the entire footwear industry has been designing shoes backwards for decades, prioritizing sleek aesthetics over human anatomy. The biomechanics research was clear, bunions, neuromas, and plantar fasciitis are largely preventable and often reversible with anatomically correct footwear, but the industry was ignoring it because narrow, stylish shoes sell better.

That's when WideStep was born. Not as another shoe company, but as a rebellion against an industry that has gaslit women into thinking their feet are the problem.
